Last year we decide to get Kune Kune pigs. Their job will be to fill our freezer on day, but not for a while. When we bought them, they moved into our garage until we could build a pig pen. Fast forward a year later and they are still in our garage. We started making progress on the pig pen last weekend. My husband bought all the lumber and supplies and got started. It was beautiful, we were so excited to get the pigs moved out of the garage and into their own space. Mind you, they have a lovely pen full of woodchips, food, water, and heat lamps. We open the doors on it daily so that they have fresh air – it really isn’t a bad set up. My husband had the outside pen just about finished and we took a break for a couple of days. That is when it hit – the wind. In case you aren’t familiar with Wyoming the wind is a crazy thing in the Winter. We had gusts of 70+ mph the other day. A lo and behold, we woke up the next morning to the whole pen on the ground.
It was heartbreaking. After we got over the initial shock we have discussed many lessons that have come from it. The first was how we were going to change the build of the pen. The others have been deeper. My initial thought was the passage from Matthew 7:24-27 ESV “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the foods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Life is like this isn’t it? We work and work on something and it crumbles. Heck, even everything that we work for on this earth will one day end. I’ve heard it said that the only things that are eternal are human souls and the Word of God. I don’t know who is responsible for that quote first, but I do think we should also add God to that mix. 2025 was a hard year for me and my family but I am so thankful that what is built on the solid foundation of Christ will stand through all eternity.
So, my question for you today is what is your life built on? Is it built on the solid foundation of Christ or on the shifting sands of this world?
